When we say that Northern California is amazing, we absolutely mean it, and you’ll see why immediately. It is simply astonishing – easily one of the most beautiful places in the United States. It’s filled to the brim with epic parks, too, and some of them really are must-adds to the old bucket list. We would argue that no life is complete without a visit to places like, of course, Yosemite National Park, but also other amazing parks like Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, where 20 incredible miles of old-growth redwood forest grows. Mendocino Headlands State Park is another can’t-miss if you’re a fan of the most beautiful, secluded beaches in Northern California.

What are some fun things to do outside in Northern California? 

In a word: everything. Northern California is home to some of the most amazing state parks in California, as well as world-class camping and campgrounds, awe-inspiring waterfalls, thousands and thousands of miles of epic hiking trails, coastlines, and so much more. It’s the perfect state for anyone wanting to enjoy the great outdoors, because the outdoors is part of what makes Northern California so great. We definitely recommend hiking Northern California; it’s an amazing place, and the best way to explore it is on foot!

So, speaking of hiking trails in Northern California, which ones are the best when visiting Yosemite National Park? We love them all, and there are an incredible number of miles of trails in Yosemite to enjoy. If you enjoy a challenge, we dare you to do the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls. The hike to Lower Yosemite Falls is pretty easy, and great for hikers of almost all skill levels. Want something right in the middle? No worries – take the Valley Loop Trail to Mirror Lake. You really cannot possibly go wrong with the hiking trails in Yosemite National Park. They are heavenly.
