Here in Idaho, we are blessed with some of the most incredible hiking trails. From exploring sand dunes to chasing waterfalls, I personally have several Idaho trails on my bucket list. However, just because winter arrives and snow covers the Gem State, there is no reason you can’t pull on your favorite wool socks and put on a pair of snowshoes to enjoy the season.

In fact, this park features up to 24 miles of groomed trails, including the easy and beautiful Harriman Hounds Trail.

Harriman Hounds Trail is an easy loop with little elevation gain. The hike is shy of six miles, which is longer than other options in the area, but the route is stunning and the perfect spot for a winter day trip. You will find the trailhead just west of the park’s visitor center.

If you’d rather explore the winter trails at this Idaho state park on snowshoes or fat bikes, it is important you stay off the groomed ski track. Also, because the Harriman Hounds Winter Trail is found within a state park, you must pay a motor vehicle entrance fee of $7 per vehicle, or provide an Idaho State Parks Passport or an annual pass. All individuals must also pay a winter access pass fee, which is $6 per person.
