Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach are a 45- to 55-minute drive if you want the bigger scene.

Paddlers, this one's for you: the Great Calusa Blueway runs 190 miles through the rivers, mangrove tunnels, and lagoons surrounding Pine Island Sound, and it's considered one of the most accessible kayak destinations in the country.
