The Most Viral Buffet in Michigan Is Known for Its Endless Seafood

This popular seafood buffet in Michigan serves endless crab legs, shrimp, and more. Here's why diners say it's worth the trip.

Some days I simply do not want to make another food decision. Some days I definitely don't want to cook. Those are buffet days. Hand me a plate, point me toward the seafood, and let me solve my problems one shrimp at a time. Buffets have been having a moment on social media lately, so when I started looking for the best seafood buffet in Michigan, one name kept popping up: Golden Palace Buffet in Livonia. Eventually, my empty stomach won the argument, and I pointed my car toward Livonia to see what all the buzz was about.

The first surprise came before I even walked inside. Most buffets have the personality of a tax office. Golden Palace actually put some effort into its exterior, giving it a welcoming look that feels more like a neighborhood restaurant than a giant dining hall.

Why Everyone Is Talking About This Buffet

Golden Palace Buffet has built a following through word of mouth, online reviews, and one very important feature: variety. People come for seafood, but they stay because there are dozens of dishes to sample without committing to just one entrée. For anyone who struggles with choosing what to eat, a buffet feels like someone finally solved the “what sounds good?” problem.

Walking in, I immediately had a little “okay, what do I do now?” moment. I walked up to the bar, which seemed to double as a host stand. They asked how many people were in my party (two), what we wanted to drink (Diet Cokes), and whether we wanted a booth or a table (booth, obviously). Then she sent us off to explore the buffet. And explore we did.

What You'll Find on the Buffet

Golden Palace starts with familiar Asian buffet favorites, including fried rice, lo mein, orange chicken, sushi, soups, dumplings, and plenty of stir-fried dishes. It has the kind of variety where you can build a completely different plate every time you walk back.

The seafood is where things get interesting. The fried fish was crisp without feeling heavy. The baked salmon, shrimp balls, spicy tuna rolls, crab and vegetable salad, and cheesy mussels all stood out. I also appreciated seeing dishes I don't usually expect at a buffet, including ceviche.

One of my favorite surprises was the hibachi station. I grabbed crab meat, mushrooms, onions, lo mein noodles, and soy sauce, then watched everything come together fresh on the grill. It was one of the best bites I had during my visit.

Golden Palace also understands the strange magic of a buffet. Where else can you find sushi, seafood, fried chicken, and French fries all sharing the same dining room? The fries were actually one of the unexpected highlights: crispy, salty, and exactly what I wanted between seafood dishes.

Then there were the Jell-O cubes. I know. Jell-O cubes at a seafood buffet sound like a detail I should politely ignore, but they were weirdly delightful. Sometimes the random little things are what you remember. Dessert ended on a high note with a light cappuccino-flavored cake that deserved a second trip.

If crab legs are what you're after, you can add them on for an extra charge. I skipped them because I was focused on trying as many different dishes as possible.

One Thing I Really Appreciated

Everything served at Golden Palace is Halal, meaning the meat follows Islamic dietary guidelines. That mattered more to me than I expected.

I'm neurodivergent, and I have what I call the “No More Chicken” moment. I'll bite into one tough or gristly piece, and my brain immediately decides chicken is canceled for the rest of the meal. Halal chicken tends to help me avoid that problem, which made the meal more enjoyable.
