This 90-Minute Train Ride Is The Most Relaxing Way To Enjoy South Carolina Scenery

Train rides are so much fun. There's just something about chugging along on the rails while enjoying the passing scenery that makes a train ride so very enjoyable. South Carolina's only recreational passenger train offers scenic rides during the summer season and they're as filled with charm as they are with a relaxing journey into the Piedmont region of the state.

Welcome to the South Carolina Railroad Museum, where you can ride the train every Saturday from June through September.

The museum features both a diesel and a steam locomotive and it regularly switches them out.

It also showcases many static cars that have been gifted to the museum for preservation. Many of them are open for self-guided tours.Feel like taking a ride? You can! Every Saturday from June through September the trains depart at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The two cars most often used are the open air car (seen here) and the caboose. On occasion, the coach car is added to the lineup as well.

Enjoy the wind blowing in your hair and a gentle summer breeze when you board the open-air car for the journey.

The 90-minute, 10-mile ride takes passengers through the backwoods and a couple of small towns in the Piedmont of the state.

The caboose (seen here) is a solid choice for an indoor ride. With plentiful windows, it affords great views of the surrounding terrain while riding in a more comfortable setting.

And on some occasions, the Railroad Museum will add the coach car to the line up.

No matter where you sit, you're sure to have a relaxing journey on the state's ONLY recreational passenger train (outside of Amtrak).

To ride the train, first visit the museum's ticketing page and get tickets for a date and time that fits with your schedule.

Then, just show up and board. It's pretty turn-key.
