7 Winter Attractions For The Family In Missouri That Don’t Involve Long Lines At The Mall

Winter's officially here! And, along with it comes plenty of fun things we can only do at this time of the year. Building snowmen. Starting impromptu snowball fights. And, lying on the ground and waving our arms and legs back and forth to make snow angels. But, that's just the beginning of all the winter fun. Here are seven attractions during winter in Missouri to add to your to-do list.

1. Snow Creek Ski Area – Weston

Bundle up the kids for an action-packed day at Snow Creek. Zoom down the mountain on a snow tube. Try your hand at snowboarding. Or, ski. Snow Creek also offers classes for kids who want to learn how to ski or snowboard. It’s one of our favorite things to do in Missouri in winter.

2. Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park – St. Louis

Glide around Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park, open daily through March 3rd, 2024. The largest ice skating rink in the Midwest, Steinberg Skating Rink also features the Snowflake Café. After a few rounds of ice skating, take a break with a delicious bite, such as a burger, a sandwich, and hot chocolate. General admission starts at $10.00 per person. Winter in Missouri is more fun outside!

3. Keystone Park – Blue Springs

What’s your favorite sledding hill in Missouri? Spend the day soaring down the hill on your sled at Blue Springs’ largest sledding hill at Keystone Park. Zip to the bottom then climb back up to the top again. Keystone Park also offers a walking trail, perfect for a scenic winter stroll. Missouri in winter can be an absolute blast!

4. Wild Lights Saint Louis Zoo – St. Louis

Spend a delightful winter evening strolling through the Saint Louis Zoo, illuminated by more than a million glittering lights and animated displays. Warm up with wonderful winter-themed treats and say hi to the animals at Penguin and Puffin Coast, as well as the Insectarium. Wild Lights at Saint Louis Zoo runs through December 30th, 2024. 5. RS Ranch Trail Rides – Bourbon

Make magical family memories with a picturesque sleigh ride at RS Ranch Trail Rides. Listen as the horses gallop along the freshly fallen snow. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, too, including white-tailed deer and turkey. Easily a favorite winter attraction in Missouri.

6. Brushy Creek Lodge and Resort – Black

Plan a day or two away at Brushy Creek Lodge and Resort. Spend a leisurely day horseback riding. Or, visit nearby Mark Twain National Forest before cozying up in bed as the snow falls outside. Winter in Missouri was never so cozy!

7. Kansas City Zoo – Kansas City

Forget the lines at the mall. Instead, spend a leisurely winter day outdoors among the animals at the Kansas City Zoo. Visit with the polar bears, penguins, and elephants. Then, stop for a bite to eat at Tuxedo Grill, Bluey’s, or Rafiki Restaurant. This is one of the most fun winter attractions in Missouri.
