Currently, reports say it can be seen around 15 miles southwest of Joplin, straddling the Missouri-Oklahoma border. It’s near the former town of Hornet and has also been called the Hornet Spooklight. In fact, that’s how you find it on Google Maps. The Hornet Spooklight is pinned to the intersection of East 50 Road and South 705 Road. Interestingly, you’ll never actually reach the orb, because it disappears as you approach. Therefore, it’s best viewed from a distance in Missouri. Locals look for the Joplin Spooklight in an area called Devil’s Promenade, which has become a collective viewing area about 10 miles south of Joplin. 

With over a century of reports in its favor and widespread publicity, the Joplin Spooklight tops the list of things to do in Missouri off the beaten path.
