We have some pretty amazing food festivals in Wisconsin. You really can’t go wrong with the big brat festivals in Madison and Sheboygan and of course there’s plenty of festivals celebrating our beloved cheese. But one of the most under-appreciated, most amazing festivals takes place in River Falls every September and more Wisconsinites need to know about it.

The River Falls Bacon Bash takes place on September 16 and 17 and it’s devoted to that wonderful meat candy, bacon. Not only can you buy literally every food imaginable made with bacon, but there’s also Pig Races, Pet Costume Parade, Kid’s Eating, Pig Wing Eating, Pig Calling/Impersonation Contests and more!

There’s also a ceremonial pardoning of the pigs in which plush piggies are flung from rooftops and plastic pigs are sent floating down the nearby Kinnickinnic River.
