The Train Ride Through The Pennsylvania Countryside That Shows Off Fall Foliage

A train whistle might be one of the most enchanting sounds to travelers as it signals the beginning – or the end – of another adventure. Whether we climb aboard a train for a journey to another town or for a scenic ride, we can’t find much that compares to the beauty of the landscape rolling by, especially on a crisp autumn day. Soak up some of that autumn beauty by climbing aboard this fall foliage train ride in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Set off on an autumn adventure aboard the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad’s fall foliage train ride that meanders from one of three train stations to Jim Thorpe, fondly known as the Switzerland of Pennsylvania.

The fall foliage train leaves on weekends from the second weekend in October through the first weekend in November. If you travel in October, you can check out the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival.

Because the fall foliage train ride is so popular, reserve your seat ahead of time. Trains leave from three stations – Reading Outer Station (with a pickup stop at Port Clinton), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station (with a pickup at Penobscot Station), and Pottsville Union Station.

The train leaving from Pottsville Union Station also includes boarding at Schuylkill Haven and Port Clinton Stations.

Each train offers a variety of seating options, including coach and first class. You’ll leave in the morning, have a layover to explore Jim Thorpe, and board the train to return later in the afternoon.

Departure and arrival times vary depending on what train you book.

Sit back and watch the fall foliage roll by as the train chugs toward Jim Thorpe, perhaps one of the most enchanting autumn towns in Pennsylvania.

Spend some time at the Annual Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival, which features a variety of family-friendly events and activities, including live entertainment, scenic train rides, and ghost tours.

After your layover in Jim Thorpe, board the train for the return journey.

Book your fall foliage train ride on the official website of the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad. Or, stop by the Facebook page of this Pennsylvania railroad.
