Though Louisiana does indeed have nearly 400 miles of coastline, we don't typically think of Louisiana as a coastal state. At least, not when you have states like Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi right next door and they're known for their beautiful beaches. However, Louisiana's coast tends to win the gold medal in fishing, with spots like Grand Isle and Venice known for their excellent fishing opportunities. There is one little slice of paradise overlooking the Gulf that might just rival our beachy neighbors, and I think you'll absolutely love it. If you've never visited Cameron, Louisiana, you're in for a special treat. Let's check it out:
Cameron, Louisiana is a tiny little town in Cameron Parish that’s home to fewer than 300 residents.
It’s a popular stop along the Creole Nature Trail, a 180-mile scenic drive that takes you all around the southern side of Cajun Country, from starting points in Sulphur and Lake Charles all the way down to the coast.
One of the major attractions of this coastal town is the beach.
You've got a few different beaches here, and since they're relatively a hidden gem, you might even have the beach all to yourself!
Holly Beach is one of the most well-known beaches here.
And the best part about Holly Beach is that you can drive right onto the beach! Say goodbye to those long hauls from the parking lot with all of your gear.
Louisiana's coastal beaches are epic for finding seashells, so keep your eyes peeled during your beach walks.
Rutherford Beach is another local beach that's known for having some beautiful seashells, and that beach is just a short drive east in the neighboring town of Creole, Louisiana.
With mild waves, beautiful scenery, and stunning sunsets, you might just make Creole, Louisiana your new favorite beach town.
It's certainly much cheaper than the other popular Gulf Coast towns!
Want to extend your stay? There are also waterfront cabins available to rent.
Holly Beach Rentals offers a few spacious cabins that overlook the water, and come with everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you really don't want to leave the beach, you can also pitch a tent and camp right on the beach!
