Louisiana is known for swamps and bayous, but remember the bottom of the boot is right along the Gulf of Mexico, with some of the most perfect hidden beaches. There’s one beach, in particular, that’s practically perfect in every way, and if you’re in the right spot at the right time, you might even find some incredible seashells.
You’ll find Rutherford Beach in a tiny town called Creole in Cameron Parish.
It’s right along the Gulf between the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge and the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge.
It’s such a hidden gem that not enough people know about.
Why travel all the way to Florida when we have beautiful beaches right here in our own backyard?
Since it's so hidden, you might find you have the beach all to yourself!
One of the best parts about this beach is that you can drive right up to the beach. Literally.
No more long walks from the parking lot!
While you're strolling in the sand, keep an eye out for seashells.
The beach is a great place to find seashells.
You might be inspired to start a new hobby!
If so, be sure to check out the nearby Holly Beach for even more shells.
The best time to find seashells is during low tide, early in the mornings.
Watching the sunrise on the beach is one of those moments you never forget, and Rutherford has some stunning sunrises.
While you're in the area, you may be interested in checking out the Creole Nature Trail, a 180-mile All-American Road that takes you to some of the most scenic landscapes in the state, including a few other beaches.
