The city of Memphis has long been considered one of the most unsafe cities in the state of Tennessee, though it has gotten quite a bit better in recent years. The FBI reported 12,674 violent crimes in the year 2018, which makes it significantly the most violent city in Tennessee.
Nashville is the second most dangerous city in the state, with 7,641 violent crimes reported in the year 2018. These violent crimes include anything from murder and rape to aggravated assault.
It may shock some that Chattanooga is the third most dangerous city in the state, especially since it is tucked away in the hilly region of southern Tennessee. The city had 1,891 violent crimes in 2018.
Clarksville, however, hardly tipped the scale at 1,041 crimes reported. The city lies just outside of Nashville and is best known as the location of an Army Reserve Center.
Jackson is a popular college town in the countryside of Tennessee, and parents can breathe easy with only 670 violent crimes reported and noted by the FBI.
Murfreesboro is a family town, and though it makes the list as one of the most dangerous cities it's hardly due to an incredible amount of crime. Only 613 violent crimes were reported.
Eastern Tennessee has its own handful of problems, though it truly is just a handful. Kingsport is number 9 on our list, with 404 violent crimes reported.
