This Hidden Lake And Campground Is One Of The Least Touristy Places In Northern Mississippi
Persimmon Hill Campground in Mississippi offers a secluded lakeside camping experience with excellent amenities and family-friendly trails.
The best places to camp in Mississippi aren’t always the most well-known. Take, for instance, the Persimmon Hill Campground. Most have never heard of it. However, with a secluded, lakeside locale, it’s easily one of the most excellent spots to go camping in north Mississippi.
Perfectly secluded and situated on the banks of Enid Lake, the Persimmon Hill Campground is nestled in Oakland, a small town in north Mississippi with roughly 500 residents.
Most residents are completely unaware of the remote campground, which means crowds aren’t the norm and peace and quiet is.
Its existence isn’t a complete secret, though. Back in 2007, it was selected as one of “America’s Top 100 Campgrounds.”
Still among the best places to camp in Mississippi, it’s a Class A campground with dozens of lake-view RV sites and an array of excellent amenities.
In addition to 50-amp electrical service, water hook-ups, and sewer hook-ups, the campground features grills, fire rings, picnic tables, comfort stations, and shower houses.
Enid Lake is, of course, the campground’s biggest perk. Accessing its clear waters is a breeze, thanks to boat ramps and a sandy beach.
The Persimmon Hill Multi-Purpose Trail is another campground amenity – and a great way to explore the area.
The 3,200-foot trail is easily one of the most family-friendly trails in Mississippi. Not only is it paved throughout, but it’s outfitted with lights, benches, rest areas, and informative signage.
It boasts lots of lovely views too, including a man-made waterfall.

The Persimmon Hill Campground might be remotely located, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find anything to do nearby. Oxford is less than an hour away, and it just so happens to be one of the best small towns in Mississippi.
