Between the gorgeous rays of sunshine and light breezes, it’s almost impossible to stay indoors, making it the perfect time to take advantage of some of the great campgrounds that fill state. Not sure where to begin? These 12 amazing camping spots in Mississippi aren’t a bad start.

2. Arkabutla Lake, Hernando
Bordered by three different campgrounds, visitors to this lake have several options when it comes to overnight accommodations. Aside from plenty of campsites, Arkabutla Lake offers a little bit of everything - from some of the best fishing in the southeast to an abundance of recreational opportunities.
3. Horn Island
Remote island camping in Mississippi? Yes! Camping in a tropical paradise is actually an option and it's one of the best-kept secrets in Mississippi.
Known for its scenic beauty, the Natchez Trace Parkway is lined with more than a dozen campgrounds; several of which are located within the park, including the Rocky Springs campground. The 22-site primitive campground includes picnic tables, restrooms, a section of the Old Trace, walking trails, and more.
5. Clear Springs Recreation Area, Meadville
In addition to camping, this recreation area offers swimming, fishing, hiking, and biking – all of which is centered around Clear Springs Lake, a beautiful 12-acre spring-fed lake.
6. Davis Bayou Area/Gulf Islands National Seashore, near Ocean Springs
Part of the national seashore, there’s never a shortage to see or do at this 51-site campground. From a two-mile nature trail that traverses the coastal forest to saltwater fishing, visitors to Davis Bayou are in for a real treat.
7. Sardis Lake Recreation Area, Lafayette, Panola, and Marshall Counties
Whether you’re packing a tent or traveling by R.V., the nine campgrounds that surround this amazing 98,000-acre lake have you covered. As if the stunning scenery isn’t enough, campers have access to a ton of amenities, including two beaches, playgrounds, trails, and boat ramps.
8. North Graysport Campground, Grenada
A wonderful setting for exploration, this campground is surrounded by the man-made Grenada lake, which has about 148 miles of shoreline.
9. Little Black Creek Campground and Park, Lumberton
Surrounding a 640-acre lake, this Lumberton campground is ideal for water enthusiasts, offering everything from fishing to kayaking.
10. John W. Kyle State Park, Sardis
This Mississippi state park, which includes 200 developed camping sites and 20 cabins, is located on the Sardis Reservoir, making it a prime location for an array of water activities.
11. J.P. Coleman State Park, Iuka
With access to both a river and freshwater lake, J.P. Coleman State Park is a water-enthusiast’s dream. The park itself overlooks the Tennessee River and allows for visitors to camp along its banks. Pickwick Lake, a 47,500-acre freshwater lake, is also located within the park and is perfect for all sorts of activities, including sailing, swimming, skiing, and fishing.
12. LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, Jackson
The last thing you’d expect to find in a large city is an award-winning state park, but that’s exactly the case when it comes to LeFleur’s Bluff. The 305-acre park includes 28 campsites, which scored the park a spot on Reserve America’s "Top 100 Campgrounds" list.
