Of all the amazing camping spots that fill Mississippi, J.P. Coleman State Park is definitely among the best. The secluded park features a river, freshwater lake, and 50’ waterfall, making it the perfect place for all types of water-related activities, including lakefront camping.
J.P. Coleman State Park is located at 613 CR 321 in Iuka. The park offers several options when it comes to overnight accommodations. Aside from primitive and RV camping sites, there are also cabins, cottages, and townhouses available for rent.
Several camping spots are located right on the banks of the Tennessee River, while all of them offer views of Pickwick Lake.
The sparkling lake offers some of the best sailing, swimming, waterskiing and fishing in the state.
Another highlight of Pickwick Lake is Cooper Falls.
The 50’ waterfall is just a quick ride from the shoreline.
Undeniably beautiful, Cooper Falls is a popular spot to anchor and swim.
At 47,500 acres, Pickwick Lake offers ample opportunities when it comes to fishing. The freshwater lake is full of crappie, bream, catfish, sauger, walleye and most species of bass. And since most campsites include grills, you’ll be able to cook your catch.
After spending some time on the lake, you can check out the park’s other amenities, such as the pool and miniature golf course, or head back to your campsite and take in the beauty that is Pickwick Lake.
