In 1893, Judson patented his creation known as the "Clasp Locker" at the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition.

The Clasp Locker, which later became known as the zipper, was initially designed as a practical solution to the time-consuming process of fastening shoes.

Judson envisioned a device that would replace traditional buttons and hooks, providing a more convenient and efficient way to secure footwear.

The original design consisted of a series of interlocking metal teeth and a sliding mechanism, allowing for a quick and secure closure.

Although Judson's invention laid the groundwork for the zipper, it was further refined and popularized by Gideon Sundback, a Swedish-American engineer.

Sundback improved the design by introducing a continuous interlocking system, creating a smoother and more reliable closure.
