There’s A Bigfoot Festival Happening In South Carolina And It’s A Family Affair
Move over Lizardman, there’s a Sasquatch contingency coming through. The first-ever South Carolina Bigfoot Festival is about to throw down in the small city of Westminster (population: about 2,300) and it’s expected to draw thousands to the family-oriented event being held on beautiful Main Street. And even though Bigfoot isn’t officially invited, you can bet there will be more than few who hope to spot the elusive woodsy creature.
Westminster is located in Oconee County, the one spot in South Carolina with the most Bigfoot sightings reported in the state since 1991.
Since 1991, there have been more than 50 Bigfoot sightings reported in South Carolina alone.
Add to that the 97 reported sightings in neighboring North Carolina since 1989, and that's an impressive number of times this cagey creature has been seen in the Carolinas! (It must be our BBQ... )
At the first-ever South Carolina Bigfoot Festival in Westminster, taking place on October 26, 2019, thousands of festival goers will attend a party in his favor. Look forward to a variety of food vendors, arts and crafts booths, live music, and more.
Also on tap for this fun event: a Bigfoot costume contest (two of them: one for under 17 and one for over 17), a big FOOT contest (do you have enormous feet?), a Bigfoot look-a-like contest, and a Bigfoot Calling Contest. Of course, many will gather for the sake of luring Bigfoot out of hiding.
Plan on their being plenty of glow sticks for sale, since Bigfoot is said to be attracted to them.
Other festival happenings include a 5k Bigfoot walk on Friday, and a Bigfoot parade on Saturday morning. You'll also get to meet and hear talks from Bigfoot experts like, Daniel Benoit, wildlife and Bigfoot researcher, cryptozoologist and Sasquatch tracker.
Led by local Bigfoot expert, Scott Phillips, this woodsy trek leaves from nearby Grapevine Campground in Mountain Rest and will traverse some places that are known hot spots for cryptid activities.
Whether you're a believer or not, the first South Carolina Bigfoot Festival should be a fun event. Bring the kids, but leave the pets at home... Bigfoot doesn't care for other animals — and besides that... they may scare him away!
The South Carolina Bigfoot Festival takes place October 26, 2019 on Main Street in Westminster. Admission to the event is free. The parade begins at 9 a.m. For more information, or to become a vendor or register to be in the parade, see the official website. You can also follow the Facebook page for updates.
Interestingly, there have been more Bigfoot sightings in South Carolina than Lizardman sightings. Have you spotted either? We’d love to know!
