If you'd prefer to stay close to the camp, you can simply rent a float and stay in the area in front.

Tube rental rates may change seasonally, but this is an affordable way to spend the day relaxing in the river area at the campground.

Why is New Hampshire's Saco River so famous?

The Saco River is one of the most popular and well-known rivers in New England. It rises out of the famous Crawford Notch in the beautiful White Mountains and flows all the way to Saco Bay in Portland, Maine. Along the way, it flows through two popular tourist towns, Barlett and Conway. It splits near Fryeburg, Maine, into a man-made canal that was useful for farming and agriculture, and then merges again before flowing out to the ocean via Saco Bay.

What are the best campgrounds in New Hampshire?

Some of the best campgrounds in New Hampshire include the following:

  • Dispersed camping is allowed in National Forests, and there are plenty of secluded glampgrounds to reserve for a luxury stay.
  • In the White Mountains, the "hut" system is world famous for their hospitality towards backpackers.
  • For those who would like to plan a less rugged camping experience, there are plenty of campgrounds that open their doors to families! Oftentimes, they host events and family-friendly activities so that even your youngest family members learn to love camping early in their lives. While there are a lot of options, one of our favorite family-friendly campgrounds, Crazy Horse Campground, certainly makes for the perfect vacation destination.
