We all know how unbearably hot the West Texas desert can be, so having a place to cool off during the hottest months of the year is crucial. Balmorhea State Park is one such destination. Not only is it home to the largest pool in Texas -- but it's also the largest freshwater swimming pool in the United States! Spring-fed and pristine as can be, this hidden oasis is the pinnacle of fun in the sun and is a must-visit location on the hottest days of the year.
The deep blue oasis is fed by the San Solomon Springs and used for freshwater swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. The Balmorhea swimming pool is the largest in Texas.
Spanning an entire acre, the pool holds 3.5 million gallons of water.
The temperature is a comfortable 72-76 degrees all year, and no chlorination is required.
The water is so clear, you can practically see straight through to the bottom -- even in the deep end, which maxes out at a whopping 25 feet. It's a hidden gem tropical paradise right here in the Lone Star State.
Jump off the diving board into the pristine sapphire pool and feel all your worries instantly wash away.
Assume your best cannonball position, get some air time, and take the plunge.
Due to the spring-fed nature of the pool, you'll be sharing it with an array of marine life.
Turtles and endangered fish species are among the creatures you'll encounter beneath the water's surface.
The 34 campsites here allow guests to extend their visit overnight.
An onsite motel, San Solomon Springs Courts, offers 18 rooms at affordable rates. Or, you can find a nice place on Airbnb.
Entrance to the park is capped at 900 people per day, and there is an entrance fee for everyone over 12.
Children 12 and under are free, and you can reserve a spot online to guarantee entrance once you arrive.
