Enjoy An Incredible Outdoor Adventure In This 1,067-Acre State Park in South Carolina

South Carolinians are so lucky to live in a state where the vast majority of the year we can enjoy the great outdoors comfortably. We have so many options for outdoor activities in South Carolina to choose from, including a day at the beach, golfing adventures, gorgeous hiking trails, and much more. Many of us enjoy exploring our incredible state parks, and one of those we wanted to highlight today, Aiken State Park, offers a wonderful escape into nature.

Aiken State Park is one of the lesser-visited, underrated parks in the South Carolina State Parks system of currently 47 state parks. With 1,067 acres of outdoor adventure, this park is one with campsites so that you can stay overnight to have multiple days to explore.

There are 25 campsites overall with water and electrical hookups and two which also have sewer hookups. Some of the sites will accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, and the campground is convenient to restrooms with hot showers.

This state park in Aiken is a fisherman's paradise, with four lakes as well as the South Fork of the Edisto River.

Bream, bass, and catfish are the main fish you could expect to catch. A South Carolina fishing license is required, and this park participates in the Tackle Loaner Program sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources, whereby rods and reels are available for loan at the park office.

There's an area for swimming that's open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Another of the wonderful outdoor activities within the park is the South Fork Edisto River Trail, a 1.7-mile canoe/kayak trail that's considered easy to moderate-level in difficulty to navigate (canoe experience is recommended).

This part of the South Fork Edisto River in Aiken State Park doesn’t have the width of the lower Main Stem; rather, a tight channel delves through a canopy of trees for an unusual, incredibly beautiful tunnel effect.

Rentals are available at this state park, including non-motorized fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, and standup paddle boards.

There's one hiking trail at this South Carolina state park, the Jungle Nature Trail, which is an easy 2.5-mile loop trail popular for birding, hiking, and walking. It's kid-friendly and dog-friendly (with dogs on a leash).

Another unique feature of this state park is the presence of three artesian wells that are a delightful, refreshing experience.
