Swim at This Iconic Waterfall Swimming Hole in South Carolina for the Ultimate Outdoor Fun

Riley Moore Falls is an iconic waterfall swimming hole in South Carolina that's perfect for summer fun.

The days are getting longer, and before we know it, that summer sun will be beating down on us. The best way to stay cool during those South Carolina summers is to find a spot to splash around—and this iconic waterfall swimming hole in South Carolina is guaranteed to do the trick.

Riley Moore Falls is a 100-foot-wide, 12-foot-tall waterfall on the Chauga River in Westminster, South Carolina.

To reach this iconic waterfall, take the 2.2-mile Riley Moore Falls Trail. It’s an easy trail that will take about 45 minutes to complete, so plan accordingly! I’d strongly recommend backing a bag with a towel, swim shoes, and sunscreen. And snacks, of course. You can make the trek in your bathing suit and swim shoes, but I’d rather hike the trail in sneakers and switch to water shoes once I get to the swimming hole. Portions of the trail are rather steep and not ideal for flip-flops.

Riley Moore Falls is a popular swimming hole in South Carolina, so don’t expect to have this one to yourself. Don’t worry; there’s plenty of space for everyone!

The large sandy beach area really comes in clutch here. Having a nice area to lay out and put your things is ideal! I personally love having a place to lay out and catch some sun in between splashing around. The area has plenty of shade, too.

Another perk is how shallow a good portion of it is—perfect for kids and dogs! It does get deeper as you get closer to the waterfall, though. The water may be a bit chilly if you’re attempting this in the spring or even early summer, but I promise you it will feel refreshing in the summer (especially after the hike).

On a sunny day, the water takes on a mesmerizing blue color that you simply have to see for yourself!

Access to Riley Moore Falls is free, but parking is very limited. Most vehicles park on the shoulder of the road near the gate/trailhead.
