You Haven’t Tried True South Carolina Comfort Food Until You’ve Been Here
This spot serves true South Carolina comfort food you have to try, with hearty dishes, local flavor, and an unforgettable dining experience.
Craving comfort food in South Carolina is serious business, and not just any place will cut it. Forget fast food or trendy restaurants just following the latest fad; instead, go local. A place like Stax's Omega Diner, where the recipes have been tested for decades and the atmosphere is as warm and inviting as the entrees, will quickly feel like a second home.
Why This Spot Serves the Best Comfort Food in South Carolina
At risk of starting a heated debate, I should say that there are so many delightful local restaurants in South Carolina serving up comfort food at its finest. But if we're talking about shrimp and grits, it's hard to argue there's anything better than what's coming out of the kitchen at Stax's Omega Diner. Their signature Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits features tender, plump shrimp simmered with andouille sausage and sweet peppers, all served atop slow-cooked stone-ground grits. There's plenty of cheese, too, but it's not overpowering. The result? A dish you'll want to order again and again.
Other Must-Try Dishes You Can’t Miss at Stax's Omega Diner
While the Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits is a local favorite, it's not the only dish people rave about from this award-winning restaurant. In true diner form, the menu is extensive, covering everything from char-grilled chicken sandwiches to Greek salads, biscuits and gravy, and plenty of other Southern comfort food. Folks are especially enthusiastic about the omelets, eggs Benedict, and meatloaf. Oh, and if you happen to see carrot cake on the menu, do yourself a favor and order two slices: one to enjoy there and one to take home! In fact, Stax's has an entire bakery—along with a catering service—which is worth a visit in its own right.
What To Expect When You Visit
Stax's has been around since 1988, and word has certainly gotten around about how good this place is. If you're planning to visit during the weekend, you can expect a wait, especially during brunch hours. Fortunately, you can check out the website in advance and add your name to the waitlist. Once you're inside, you'll discover a friendly, easygoing atmosphere perfect for families. The servers are helpful, move quickly, and are happy to make a suggestion. Sitting back in your chair, you can't help but feel impressed by the sheer volume of pancakes, burgers, and other delectable dishes coming out of the kitchen! The prices here are in line with other casual Greenville restaurants, and the portions are wonderfully generous.

Of course, after you've filled up on some of the best comfort food in South Carolina, you'll be ready to explore all that Greenville has to offer. Some nearby adventures include biking the Swamp Rabbit Trail or just strolling downtown to admire Falls Park on the Reedy. There's a reason Greenville is often considered the coolest Southern city!
