When you feel like spending a day outdoors in the fresh air, any time of the year, uncover one of those gems - a little-known hiking area in Lock Haven Pennsylvania.
Gear up for a day of exploring the numerous hiking trails that wander through the small but beautiful Zindel Park in Lock Haven.
The compact Pennsylvania park features half a dozen hiking trails, but be prepared. All are rated moderate or difficult, so you have a bit of a challenge ahead of you.
Don't worry, though, just slip on a pair of sturdy hiking shoes for your adventure. The stunning scenery is well worth the challenge.
If you prefer to work up to a difficult hike, follow the moderately-rated McElhatten Reservoir Trail. Tallying just under 5.5 miles, the dog-friendly trail poses some challenges.
The trail becomes narrow at points and features a steep incline. Pay attention to the path, or you can easily stray from it.
For a bigger challenge, set off on the Bald Eagle Mountain Trail, a difficult hike that spans 9.3 miles.
While the beginning of the trail seems rather flat and easy, the further you get into the hike, the more difficult it becomes. Wear sturdy shoes because you'll be dealing with a lot of rocks and boulders.
Be forewarned, however, that the area typically has an abundance of snakes and ticks.
Successful hiking in Zindel Park requires paying close attention to the trail, so you don't injure yourself on rocky terrain or wander off of the path.
