During the summer months, the prairie surrounding this lake becomes lush and green, and the water is deep blue and clear.

Along with fish, part of Lake Audubon is a protected national wildlife refuge with thousands of birds that come through and live here each year. More than 245 species of birds have been documented here with everything from ducks and geese in the water, to pheasants and grouse in the surrounding fields.
Lake Audubon is also a place where you can easily spot deer and other mammals, so don't forget to bring a pair of binoculars to easily spot them. You can find more information on the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge via the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service website. Please keep in mind that the wildlife refuge doesn't allow boats or similar on the water, but the parts of the lake that aren't part of the refuge do. In fact, there are multiple boat ramps around it.
