This 3.4-Mile Trail In Missouri Is Covered In Wildflower Blooms In The Springtime
Even those among us who love the cold and snow will likely admit that there's something so magical about spring. The days grow longer; the sun shines a little brighter, and the pale gray of the landscape begins to leap alive with color. As the landscape begins its transformation, we often find any excuse to spend time outdoors. One of the best ways to soak up every moment of spring is to head out on this wildflower trail in Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Embrace those breezy days of spring with a trek along the Swimming Deer Trail, a meandering path that winds 3.4 miles through St. Francois State Park in Bonne Terre.
The trail is blazed in green, making it easy to stay on the path.
This dog-friendly path earns a moderate rating due to some rocky terrain and inclines. Some hikers, however, consider it on the easy side. You'll really have to judge for yourself.
If you bring your pup along, make sure he remains leashed, and pick up after him.
Vibrant bluebells line much of the path, adding a splash of color against the lush green of the foliage and the trees.
Because it's such a popular trail, it can get quite busy. Expect to run into other hikers.
Cross footbridges, and pass beautiful patches of bluebells on this well-marked trail. The bluebells are certainly the highlight of the trail in the spring, but a few other surprises await.
Part of the path runs along the Big River, which leads to bluffs that boast sensational views.
Keep an eye out, too, for a hidden cave and local wildlife.
Once you've hiked this pretty path in the spring, you'll likely already be making plans to visit again in the other seasons. It is certainly worth a hike in each.
If you have time, spend some more time exploring after your hike. You might even want to bring a picnic and enjoy a leisurely meal at one of the tables.
