The Gorgeous, Little-Known River Is One Of The Most Underrated Fishing Spots In Idaho

For many people, fishing is not just a hobby or a sport, it is a passion. Idaho is a fisherman’s paradise with many incredible rivers and lakes to throw in a line and see what you can catch. I grew up fishing and come from a family of skilled fishermen. Turns out, one of their favorite places to try their luck is found in eastern Idaho. It is the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River.

Idaho is known for its incredible fishing streams and lakes. And while we could list dozens of places for a day spent outdoors, the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River is at the top of the list.

Henry’s Fork is a tributary of the Snake River. It flows through Fremont and Madison Counties in eastern Idaho and is approximately 112 miles long.

This river is beautiful as it flows through forests, meadows, farmland, and more.

It is also perfect for fishermen of all skill levels and for all types of fishing. Along Henry’s Fork, you can enjoy both fishing from a boat or along the shore.

If you love fly fishing, Henry’s Fork is a bucket-list-worthy destination as well.

And no matter how you throw in your line, be prepared to catch fish of all sizes. This river is also home to all types of fish species but trout, including brown, rainbow, and cutthroat, are all quite common.

Fun fact: Idaho’s state fish is the cutthroat trout. This fish received its name due to the red coloration on the fish’s lower jaw.

And while the incredible fishing is one of the reasons to love this river, we also love that it is home to the breathtaking Mesa Falls in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

Henry’s Fork also flows through Island Park an outdoor lovers paradise with hikes, ATV trails, and campgrounds galore. Island Park is also just a short drive outside of Yellowstone National Park and is home to both Henry’s Lake State Park and Harriman State Park.

And no matter if you are fishing, floating, or just admiring the views, keep your eyes out for wildlife and always have bear spray and bear bells with you. I could share many stories about bears, moose, and other wildlife spotted on this river!
