History whispers from all corners of Continental Tavern in Yardley, a popular neighborhood eatery that opened in the early part of the 21st century.
However, the restaurant sits in a restored building that dates back to 1877, and it's brimming with history. During the restoration process in 2007, construction workers discovered a hidden basement chamber.
It is believed that the chamber was originally accessed by a trap door and connected to a tunnel that was part of the Underground Railroad.
Excavation of the chamber yielded a slew of historical treasures - alcohol bottles and personal care products, for example. You can see many of those artifacts when you visit the tavern.
Continental Tavern is also known for special events - from hosting live entertainment to participating in local celebrations of restaurant week.
It's also the perfect spot when you're craving good, old-fashioned tavern food in a cozy setting.
The tavern offers an assortment of weekly specials - from fish and chips to vegan pasta - as well as regular favorites.
Kick off your meal with a tasty appetizer, a fresh salad, or a piping hot bowl of soup.
If you love a good burger, you can't go wrong with one of Continental Tavern's award-winning burgers. The Impossible Burger's available for vegans and vegetarians.
The menu also features such favorites as chicken pot pie, steak frites, and pulled pork sandwiches.
