I love a good art museum just as much as any other art lover. They are perfect for rainy or cold winter days when you have nothing but time to wander. But art museums can be expensive to visit and you might be in the mood to see something a little different. Tucked away in the unassuming basement of a house in Portsmouth lies the Museum of Dumb Guy Stuff, and it's an unusual museum experience like no other.
The Museum of Dumb Guy Stuff in Portsmouth was founded by Rod Hildebrand and Clay Emery after both men retired from their respective careers.
Clay's hobby of "converting" action figures into new creations began as a solitary activity, but he wished to share his art with the public.
Rod soon joined in and the men became fast friends, collaborating on creations in Clay's basement.
Through word of mouth (and a specially designed flag outside), passers-by quickly began to become curious about what was happening in this basement.
The city got behind the men and promoted the museum and its quirkiness, and soon visitors began arriving from as far away as Europe.
This isn't a typical art museum and you don't have to be dumb or a guy to appreciate the creativity happening just steps from downtown Portsmouth.
For lovers of toys and eclectic art, this unusual museum should be on your list of places to check out. In the spirit of the museum itself, there is no website, but you can learn more by following the Museum of Dumb Guy Stuff on Facebook.
