The World’s Single-Largest Mailbox is Located Right Here in Illinois

You’ve probably heard that bigger is always better, right? But is that really true? I don’t always believe that, but when you visit the town of Casey Illinois, you will soon find out that bigger is in fact better there. You might even find yourself becoming enamored with many everyday items that are larger than life, including the world's largest mailbox. This little town has tons of the largest things in Illinois, and one of its most popular is the massive mailbox. Take a look at this quirky creation that's one of the best roadside attractions in Illinois. I recommend you bring your camera because you’ve never seen a mailbox quite like this before. 

The little town of Casey needed a boost a while back, and businessman Jim Bolin had the brilliant idea to get the town into the Guinness Book of World Records by creating several "World's Biggest" items around town.

One of the most charming projects was the World's Largest Mailbox, which was completed in 2015. The record-breaking mailbox measures 5,743.41 cubic feet, and it's designed to look exactly like a regulation, residential mailbox. Visitors can climb the stairs inside the hollow support post to stand inside the mailbox itself. The interior is plenty roomy, and you can even mail a letter while you're here!

The views from the front of the mailbox aren't bad either - you can get a glimpse of the little town below from inside. Tourists come from all over the world to climb up into the World's Largest Mailbox and wave at bystanders below. The mailbox is just one of several ordinary items that have been created in gigantic, record-breaking sizes. Just across the street from the mailbox, you'll find the World's Largest Bird Cage.

The World's Largest Pencil is made of real wood and measures 32.5 feet long. The World's Largest Rocking Chair is 56 feet and 1 inch tall and weighs 46,200 pounds. And the World's Largest Clogs, which were hand-carved, measure 11 feet 5 inches long by 5 feet 10 inches wide and stand 4 feet 10 inches tall.

Other items around town that are billed as the "World's Largest" include knitting needles, a golf tee, a pitchfork, and wind chimes, but the mailbox is the item that is the most functional since it can accept mail. I think that's pretty cool!
