A Hike Along The Most Enchanting Seaside Trail In Alaska Is Heavenly
On the edge of the charming downtown area in Skagway runs the Yakutania Point Trail, an easy stroll off the main drag. A good length to stretch y our legs, this trail hugs the seaside and offers fresh breezes and killer views. The Yakutania Point Trail is easy to find in downtown Skagway, near the airport. Take an easy walk to stretch your legs on the flat, level trail.
To find the trail, walk west along 1st Avenue and turn left at Main Street, then travel
south two blocks and follow the sidewalk
west past the airport terminal.
Head across the foot bridge over the Skagway River and turn left, following the trail through alder forest. The path is smooth and level the whole way.
Continue along down some rock steps, past the picnic shelter where rock outcroppings provide a view looking down the Lynn Canal toward the Chilkat Mountains.
This 1.6 mile roundtrip journey pops with beautiful views as it winds along the wooded shoreline.
Harbor seals flock to the tidal flats along the trail. Wildlife abound including terns and Harlequin ducks. The air will also be home to many kinds of coastal birds.
Take the footbridge over the Skagway River and see the water rushing below you. The harbor seals can be spied from this vantage point.
Yakutania Point offers beautiful views of the Taiya Inlet and the mouth of the Skagway River, with the Chilkat Mountains rising in the background. The trail is best to use from April through September.
The Yakutania Point Trail is perfect for everyone, and a great way to spend a couple hours on an afternoon in Skagway.
