Do you ever get into a conversation with someone after you told them you’re from Wisconsin and they ask the same predictable questions? Don’t you wish you could just hand them a list of answers? Well, print out this guide with answers to some of the most common questions Wisconsinites get asked by others.
1. Have you ever milked a cow?
Um, no. A lot of us haven't. Sure, plenty of us have grandparents who were born on farms, but a lot of us only view cows from a distance.
2. So, you're a Packers fan then, right?
Is that even a joke? OF COURSE we are Packers fans in Wisconsin. The only exception is Illinois people who realize Wisconsin is vastly superior but bring their Bears loyalties.
3. You probably eat a lot of cheese, right?
Yes, and butter, and ice cream. This is America's Dairyland. And I bet you eat a lot of cheese, too, because it's awesome.
4. Doesn't it get cold?
Dude, they don't call it the Frozen Tundra for nothing. This place gets super cold in the winter. Like colder than Alaska sometimes. But you get thick skin and deal with it.
5. What are the words coming out of your mouth?
Okay, up here we say "bubbler" and talk about "stop and go lights." The words are not so foreign that you totally can't understand us.
6. Does everyone have an accent?
Just because bag sometimes sounds like "bayg" doesn't mean I have an accent. And have you ever thought that pronouncing it "bahg" sounds weird?
7. Whatcha drinking?
It's an old fashioned, the only thing we drink when there isn't beer. You should try one. It's the signature cocktail of Wisconsin.
8. How do you pronounce your hometown's name?
Yeah, we get that a lot. We have a lot of towns up here named for American Indian words. But guess what? You learn them and then its pretty easy.
9. Why are you excited about a fish fry?
Uhhhh, because they are delicious. It's fresh caught fish from our local waters, served with some awesome sides and among great community members. What could be better?
10. How is frozen custard different from ice cream?
Frozen custard is so superior to ice cream. It's rich, but smooth, and the only state that seems to get it right is Wisconsin.
11. Are you really going to drive in that?
Are you kidding me? That doesn't even look bad. We go out in blizzards to get to work. There are no excuses here.
12. What's the big deal about brats?
Okay, you live in your little world where the best thing you got going on is hot dogs. Brats are so much better. I just can't even.
Hey, stop asking questions and give Wisconsin a visit. You’ll be speechless. And we can all get excited about that.
