More than 65 Wisconsin restaurants have been featured on different TV shows on channels like Food Network and the Travel Channel. You could travel all over the state visiting every single one of them in what would be a truly epic – and delicious – road trip. Here are 10 of our favorite spots all over the map that are just a little bit famous these days:
1. Gail Ambrosius - Madison
Highlighted on America's Best as having the best little box of chocolates, this shop has such delicious treats that you'll want to grab some bites for now and some to take with you.
Located at 2083 Atwood Ave, Madison, WI 53704.
2. Benji's Deli - Shorewood and Fox Point
This deli was seen on Man vs. Food Nation, where Adam tried the Hear-O Israel, which consists of a 1/4 lb of pastrami, 1/4 lb of corned beef, 1/4 lb of salami, 1/4 lb of peppered beef, with Swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Thousand Island dressing on rye. But you don't have to try to tackle that monster - you can just get some of the best deli sandwiches this side of New York City.
Located at 4156 North Oakland Ave, Shorewood WI 53211 and 8683 N. Port Washington Road, Fox Point WI 53217.
3. Pelletier's - Fish Creek
A Food Paradise episode about seafood featured this fish boil restaurant in Door County. Fish boils are a unique Wisconsin tradition and no one does it better than Pelletier's.
Located at 4199 Main St, Fish Creek, WI 54212.
4. Shorty's Pizza - Superior
You don't often find a pizza spot that also cures their own meat, which is why Shorty's was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. In a nondescript building you'll find some of the tastiest pizza ever. The attention to detail and care with which everything is made shines through in the flavor. Plan to leave with a bag full of meat to enjoy at home.
Located at 1015 Tower Ave, Superior, WI 54880.
5. Solly's Grille - Milwaukee
Featured on Burgerland, Solly's is a love it or hate it type spot. I personally love heading here for a burger on a pillow positively drenched in butter. I remember going as a kid and I have a lot of nostalgia for the place. It's something any burger lover should try at least once and it's certainly unique.
Located at 4629 N Port Washington Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53212.
6. Ella's Deli - Madison
Shown on Craziest Restaurants in America and dubbed the number two weirdest spot, Ella's is a mechanical toy museum of sorts, stuffed to the gills with little animated toys. It's an homage to times gone by and you can ride the carousel before you leave. There's really no place like Ella's anywhere else in the world.
Located at 2902 E Washington Ave, Madison, WI 53704.
7. Pizza Doctors - La Crosse
These guys were on Food Paradise and Outrageous Food. If you've ever wanted a pizza topped with cereal or more candy than you can comprehend, this is the spot for you. There's no topping these guys won't try on a pizza.
Located at 624 King St, La Crosse, WI 54601.
8. Baumgartner's - Monroe
A Food Paradise episode called "Cheese Paradise" featured Baumgartners, which opened in 1931, making it the oldest cheese store in Wisconsin. They're also the only spot to try a stinky Limburger sandwich, which is served with its very own breath mint for afterwards. Baumgartner's is a perfect Wisconsin tradition.
Located at 1023 16th Ave, Monroe, WI 53566.
9. Brickhouse Cafe - Cable
Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for things like their espresso BBQ pulled pork, this is a stellar little spot way up in Cable. You'll find super interesting sandwich combinations and find yourself wanting to go back again and again for more.
Located at 13485 Reynolds St, Cable, WI 54821.
10. Elegant Farmer - Mukwonago
Bobby Flay himself traveled here for an episode of Throwdown all about the apple pie in a paper bag. Voted the best apple pie in America by several different publications and shows, Elegant Farmer is a totally unique experience.
Located at Address: 1545 Main St, Mukwonago, WI 53149.
