This small town only has a population of about 1,734 people, but there's no shortage of ghostly visitors passing through.

This fascinating place sits inside the gorgeous Entler Hotel. Here, you'll learn all about the history of this one-of-a-kind town. Visit the top floor to see a replica of an old hotel room. This is where the museum's resident ghost, William Payton Smith, is known to spend the night.
Then, continue to the charming historic district and stop inside Shepherdstown Sweet Shop and Bakery.
In addition to making delectable pastries and desserts, Shepherdstown Sweet Shop and Bakery is known for its spectral visitor. Employees and visitors often report feeling the ghost of "The Colonel" brush by them as they walk through the shop. You may even hear him whisper in your ear. This old building was used as a hospital during the Battle of Antietam, so it's no surprise this ghostly soldier lingers about.
Shepherd University is also rumored to be haunted.
Shepherd University's McMurran Hall was also used as hospital during the Civil War, and many spirits continue to wander the grounds. Students have reported seeing a shadowing figure standing by the windows.
