One prime example is the Red Fox Inn & Tavern, located in the historic Middleburg. Built in 1728, it's the oldest established inn in the entire country. As such, this landmark has witnessed its fair share of history.
Both the Tavern and the Inn still operate today. Step inside this quaint dining room, and you'll discover a lovely and historic place to eat dinner. Although...there's a chance you might not be dining alone.
Please note that the Tavern is temporarily closed and the kitchen is serving meals on the courtyard. For more information about this, be sure to visit the website.

During the Civil War, the bar inside the tavern was temporarily used as a surgeon's operating table. This haunting fact alone is enough to send a chill up your spine.
It's also believed that the rooms themselves are haunted. Room 19, for example, is a hotbed of paranormal activity. The most frequent occurrence is that guests will discover their locked room to be ajar in the morning.
Other reported hauntings include the sound of faint whispers in empty hallways and creaking stairs. Fortunately, none of the spirits who reside here seem to be menacing, but guests should expect the unexpected.
