The following restaurants not only serve delicious food, but they also offer incredible views of Virginia’s beautiful waterfront. If you can make it to the shore, the experience will be well worth the effort. You won’t even have to leave the beach to dine at these 9 spots along the Atlantic.
1. The Shanty (Cape Charles)
Located on the southern tip of Virginia's eastern shore, the Shanty offers some of the best fresh seafood around. You can enjoy unbeatable sunsets on the deck with the sound of nearby waves and a delicious plate of food in front of you. Calamari and crabcakes are among some of the most popular menu items. The Shanty is open for brunch as well.
2. Waterman's Surfside Grille (Virginia Beach)
You'll find Waterman's Surfside Grille right at the beginning of the famous Virginia Beach boardwalk. Or, you could simply walk up to it right from the shore. The food here is always fresh and high quality, hitting the spot for any seafood craving you might have worked up during your day at the beach. You really can't go wrong with this delicious plate of blackened tuna tacos. Also be sure to order an orange crush, their specialty summertime drink.
3. Big Sam's Raw Bar (Virginia Beach)
The local gem that is Big Sam's Raw Bar overlooks the scenic Rudee's Inlet. The atmosphere is shabby chic, making it the perfect place to stop in for lunch or brunch after some time in the sun. You can expect the food to be reasonably priced and served up quickly. Most popular is the she-crab soup or the oysters sourced locally from Assateague Island.
4. Lynnhaven Fish House (Chesapeake)
The Lynnhaen Fish House is located right on the bay and provides amazing views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, especially at sunset. It's also one of the only places in the are where you can order a whole Maine lobster. The side of homemade hush puppies is definitely not to be missed. If you're in the mood to sample some freshly caught fish, you can try the entree photographed above, complete with mahi, flounder, and salmon.
5. Buoy 44 Seafood Grill (Virginia Beach)
Care to enjoy the warm breeze off the Bay with a cold drink in your hand? You'll love the casual beach vibe at Buoy 44 Seafood Grill. There's live music, fantastic outdoor seating, and all the tasty seafood you could hope for. Whether you're spitting the seafood platter for two or just enjoying a delicious crab cake sandwich, you won't mind passing the time here.
6. Catch 31 Fishhouse and Bar (Virginia Beach)
Catch 31 is located at the heart of Virginia Beach. In fact, there is even private seating available on the boardwalk. This fine dining establishment is also a great place to grab a drink, seeing as the ocean is just a stone's through away. From scallops, to rockfish, to lobster pizza (above), this place has a little bit of everything.
7. Ocean House (Virginia Beach)
Sitting out on the deck at the Ocean House will provide you with unforgettable views of the ocean. The atmosphere is laid-back and charming, with a fine attention to flavor. Seafood and pasta alike are cooked to perfection, and the calamari appetizer is definitely something to write home about.
8. Isle of Capri Restaurant (Virginia Beach)
This restaurant takes ocean view to a whole new level -- quite literally. This restaurant is located on the 5th floor of a Virginia Beach hotel with a killer view. You'll find upscale Italian options on the menu, complete with a little fresh seafood. Here we've got the delicious shrimp scampi entree.
9. Ocean Eddie's
Ocean Eddie's is a Virginia Beach staple, and it's no mystery why. Located right off the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier, you'll find this cozy restaurant is never without the fresh catch of the day. As seen by this spectacular plate of seafood, it'll be hard to leave this place too hungry. Rumor has it they've also got the best fries in town.
