1. Charleston

Start the year (sometime in January) with a stop in Charleston. Despite being West Virginia's largest city, it still qualifies as a small town by the nation's standards! 2. Snowshoe

In February, swing through Snowshoe, West Virginia. Ski if you like; otherwise, feel free to stroll the wintery streets with a steaming cup of hot cocoa or soak in the heated outdoor pool if that's more your style. We think the winter village at Snowshoe will charm you beyond words!

3. Harpers Ferry

In March, spring will have sprung in Harpers Ferry... meaning you may see it under a blanket of snow OR boasting ephemeral flowers! Either way, it's a great time to explore this National Historic Park. It's the historic area in West Virginia that everyone should experience at least once.

4. Point Pleasant

5. Pineville

7. Nitro

Looking for a patriotic town to spend some time in during July? Look no further than Nitro, West Virginia, where you'll find free museums, living memorial parks, and more.

8. Williamson

Take some time in August to explore Williamson. See one of the nation's rare buildings made completely of coal. Ride the Hatfield-McCoy trail. Stay at the Mountaineer Hotel. We'd argue that Williamson is the most underrated small town in West Virginia. See if you agree!

9. Cass

In September, catch the earliest of the fall colors in Cass. This town-turned-state-park is one of the cutest, most historic little communities to be found in West Virginia.

10. Ansted
