It's well known that West Virginia has some cool small towns, like Fayetteville, Lewisburg, and Shepherdstown. Fewer people are familiar with Williamson... and that's a shame! This little town in Mingo county has history, nature, and great dining, and is most definitely worth a visit.
Williamson is a city in Mingo County along the Tug Fork River.
It has one of the largest rail yards in West Virginia, built to serve the coal industry.
There's an interesting structure downtown... a building made entirely of coal!
Inside you'll find the Chamber of Commerce, with tourist information and souvenirs.
Williamson has access to the historic Hatfield-McCoy trail system, popular with ATV drivers.
You can also hike, bike, or ride horses on the trails.
After wandering around town and the trails, of course you'll be hungry. 34:Ate is a great spot for lunch.
The restaurant serves creative and locally sourced salads, soups, sandwiches, and desserts.
You'll also want to try Sazon Mexican Restaurant.
Here you'll find plenty of authentic and flavorful Mexican dishes.
If you visit on a Saturday, be sure to check out the Farmers Market, filled with locally grown produce and artisan crafted goods.

It's had dozens of famous guests since it was built in 1925.

This bed and breakfast is filled with historical pictures and artifacts from the infamous Hatfield-McCoy Feud.
