1. Trek the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

The VBRRT is one of many converted rail trails in Virginia. It all began in 1914 when construction of the line began along the Tye and Piney Rivers. In its heyday, it was the longest running commercial shortline in U.S. history. By 1980, however, the railway had been completely abandoned. Today, visitors can walk alongside this historic railway in what has since been converted into a gorgeous trail.
