The Under-The-Radar Scenic Drive In South Carolina That Showcases Waterfalls, Creeks, And Orchards

One of the best ways to explore this beautiful state of South Carolina is by simply getting in the car and taking a drive. You could always make your own route or choose from among the plentiful selection of scenic drives in South Carolina throughout the state. We're going to explore the upstate portion of one of those together now, Highway 76, a road that stretches almost entirely across the state.

Waterfalls abound in this area of South Carolina. About two miles into the state from the Georgia border along Highway 76 is the trailhead for Reedy Branch Falls, a 30-foot cascading waterfall. The trail is only about a mile out and back.

Venture off of Highway 76 for a few miles to also see Brasstown Falls, a larger waterfall of 120 feet.

Continuing along Highway 76, you'll cross over several creeks, including Reedy Branch, Long Creek, and East Toxaway Creek, as you travel through some small towns starting in Mountain Rest, through Long Creek, and towards Westminster.

Another thing this beautiful area is known for is apples, and Highway 76 passes by several orchards.

Apple season for many orchards in South Carolina starts as early as the third week in July, but plan your visit in September for the best variety.

Or just stop by one of the roadside stands for some already picked apples along your scenic drive during this time of year. There's nothing like homemade applesauce, apple pies, apple cider, and more apple goodness made from the freshest, locally-grown apples.
