The Incredible Road Trip Through South Carolina That Leads You To 6 Stunning Lakes
Lake life is about escaping the daily grind, embracing the simpler way of day-to-day living, a slower pace to appreciate more of those things we too often lose sight of and begin to take for granted, and a perspective that doing absolutely nothing is doing something, that sometimes that's exactly what we need to be doing. Have you ever taken time to visit some of our most beautiful lakes in South Carolina? We've put together a fun road trip that will allow you to compare six of our stunning lakes over the course of a couple of days. Pack a bag, and a few delicious road trip snacks, and bring your camera along as you're sure to capture some gorgeous scenes.
The wonderful thing about a loop road trip is you can hop into the loop at the lake closest to you as your starting point. Feel free to customize this map we've put together through Google Maps to adjust the order of each stop and to add your starting/ending point for a better estimate of drive time.
1. Lake Jocassee
Named among the most beautiful lakes in America and one of the world's last great places, Lake Jocassee is one of South Carolina's greatest treasures, with blue ridge mountain landscape views and deep blue waters.
2. Lake Keowee
As much as I personally love Jocassee, I feel like Lake Keowee runs a close second in terms of beauty. The blue-green waters give off tropical vibes for me, and I love that it's known for pristine water from the mountain streams feeding it and the community's dedication to keeping it clean.
3. Lake Greenwood
If you're looking for a less-crowded place to enjoy a day of lake life, Lake Greenwood may be for you. One of the largest lakes in South Carolina, Lake Greenwood is referred to as the hidden gem of the south by some.
4. Lake Murray
A lakes road trip just would not be complete without a stop at the "Jewel of South Carolina." Lake Murray attracts visitors for its beauty and great fishing.
5. Lake Monticello
Probably the lesser-known of these six scenic lakes, Lake Monticello is popular for boating and fishing, especially catfish, with a 97-pound blue catfish caught one year!
6. Lake Wylie
We share beautiful Lake Wylie with North Carolina, known as one of the oldest reservoirs in South Carolina, created in 1904. The area has experienced tremendous growth recently as a wonderful place not only to visit, but also to live.
Which do you think is the most beautiful lake in South Carolina?
