With so many small towns and cities in Pennsylvania, we can inadvertently overlook a few hidden gems. I love discovering new places, especially small towns, where the locals welcome visitors with a smile, and life moves a little slower while there’s still always something to do. Next time you’re considering where your next day trip or weekend getaway will take you, make it to this underrated small town in Pennsylvania.
Easton is the kind of town that has something for everyone, from those with kids and history buffs to solo travelers and foodies. One of the must-visit attractions in this small town in Pennsylvania, the Crayola Experience, with more than 65,000 square feet of interactive attractions, sparks the imagination of kids (and adults) of all ages. Create your own cartoon. Pose for a photo and star in your own coloring book, and try your hand at dip art.
If you love history, you’ve come to the right town. Create an itinerary of must-visit spots like the National Canal Museum, the Jacob Nicholas House (dates back to 1807), and the Parsons-Taylor House (built in 1757). Learn more about Easton’s history at the family-friendly Sigal Museum & Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society, which has guided and self-guided tours, child-centric programs, and interactive exhibits.
Easton is also home to the United States’ oldest continuously operating open-air market, so add it to your calendar. The beloved farmers market typically runs each Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., from early May through mid-December. Spend an hour or two visiting the vendor booths that feature a bit of everything, including fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, and arts and crafts. You can also grab a meal from one of the restaurants and cafes that are on hand.
Outdoor lovers will find plenty to do in Easton, including a few of the best hiking trails in Pennsylvania. For a truly one-of-a-kind experience, follow the whimsical Karl Stirner Arts Trail, which features unique art on the path. Make sure you bring a camera.
No matter when you visit, spend some time in Historic Downtown Easton, where you’ll find dozens of shops and restaurants.
