Colorado Wildflower Week 2026: Best Events, Scenic Hikes, and Things to Do
The 11-day, wildflower-inspired celebration will take place from July 2 to 12 and feature a lineup of guided hikes, outdoor wellness experiences, educational programming, free live music, art classes, and more.
Breckenridge has long been lauded as one of the top winter destinations in the United States, but what non-locals seem to forget is that the Colorado ski resort town also has quite a lot to offer in the summer, as well, from hiking and mountain biking to rafting, fishing, and plenty of patio dining. And let us not forget the wildflowers that saturate the town with color. In celebration of that, Breckenridge is debuting its first-ever Wildflower Week, creating yet another reason why the Rocky Mountain town is a must-visit for summer 2026. The 11-day celebration will take place from July 2 to 12 and feature a lineup of guided hikes, outdoor wellness experiences, educational programming, free live music, art classes, and more—all rooted in the town’s peak summer bloom.
Ahead, familiarize yourself with the festival to start planning your perfect summer getaway during Breckenridge Wildflower Week.
What To Expect During Breckenridge Wildflower Week
Breck is best known for its powder-dusted mountains and world-class skiing, but come summer, the high-elevation mountain resort town, set at 9,600’ in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, comes alive with vibrant shades of red, coral, yellow, blue, purple, pink, and violet thanks to the columbine, lupine, Indian paintbush, asters, and other high-altitude wildflowers that fill the alpine meadows once the snow melts and temperatures rise.
This summer, the town of Breckenridge is encouraging visitors to explore the flower-dotted landscape, the iconic peaks, and all the creativity—from the cuisine to the naturalist-led activities—that lies between them and Main Street.
“Wildflower Week is a celebration of everything that makes summer in Breckenridge feel Magical—the panoramic scenery with stunning flowers, the creativity of our community, and the connection visitors feel when they immerse themselves in our historic mountain town,” says Breckenridge Tourism Office PR Manager Kerry O’Connor.
During Breckenridge Wildflower Week, visitors can look forward to an array of bloom-accompanied activities (many of which are fee-based), including guided wildflower hikes, educational sustainability sessions, community yoga classes, outdoor craft workshops, free live concerts, and more.
Guided Wildflower Hikes Showcase Breck’s Alpine Beauty
Skiing and snowboarding down Breck’s magnificent mountains in winter is one thing; hiking through them during summer offers an entirely different perspective on the place. In recognition of that, the Breckenridge Open Space and Trails naturalists will lead free guided hikes all week to teach attendees about the landscape and its flowers. And don’t worry! While Breck is renowned for its elevation, a few of the hikes are relatively flat and beginner-friendly, while others, like Horseshoe Bowl and Black Powder Pass, are reserved for intermediate to advanced hikers.
In the event the guided hike you’re eyeing fills up—they’re taking around a dozen people up per hike—don’t fret! Breckenridge Open Space and Trails will be offering free guided wildflower hikes all summer long, teaching attendees not only about the blooms but the importance of the Leave No Trace hiker’s ethos, too.
The chance to navigate some of the area’s most iconic trails at a time when birdsong, bees, and a crisp mountain breeze fill the air in place of fluffy snowflakes? Breckenridge wildflower hikes are a Colorado bucket-list summer experience, for sure.
BreckCreate and the National Repertory Orchestra Bring Art Into the Mountains
As much as we love a scenic Breckenridge hiking trail filled with the sounds of nature, there’s nothing quite like getting to experience enchanting musical performances surrounded by majestic mountains, towering evergreens, and a rainbow of wildflowers. This Wildflower Week and beyond, the National Repertory Orchestra will perform free live concerts throughout Breckenridge, and many of the restaurants and bars on Main Street will have live music, as well.
Meanwhile, if you prefer to exercise creativity through sight and touch rather than sound, be sure to peep the various BreckCreate events welcoming visitors to get a little more hands-on. Attendees can choose from painting classes, floral bolo-tie making, glassblowing classes, and more—all set against the flower-dotted meadows and mountain backdrops.
The World’s Highest Distillery Is Serving Wildflower Cocktails
After hiking, biking, and/or painting your way through Breckenridge Wildflower Week, you’re bound to work up an appetite. While there are many places worth visiting in town (which I’ll touch on in a bit), Breckenridge Distillery—the world’s highest distillery—stands out.
Sticking to the floral theme, Breckenridge Distillery will craft refreshing wildflower-inspired cocktails and mocktails to complement the festival and pair with its Colorado-sourced contemporary American cuisine, including burgers, steaks, pork chops, and lamb. They’re even hosting cocktail-making classes to teach visitors how to whip up the drinks at home.
Where To Eat During Wildflower Week in Breckenridge
Breckenridge Distillery is but one delicious dining option in Breck. To start your day, head over to Threefold Bakery, where James Beard Award-winning Chef Matt Vawter and two of his friends dish up long-fermented artisan sourdough, croissants, seasonal danishes, muffins, biscuits, and cookies alongside cappuccinos, lattes, and other caffeinated and non-caffeinated options. For lunch, grab a spot on the patio at The Motherloaded Tavern (a quirky comfort food spot), Piante Pizzeria (a vegan pizza place), or Sancho Tacos & Tequilas (a fresh Mexican joint). If you don’t mind missing out on a patio, The Gold Pan Saloon is always a good time, too. (The garlic and herb fries are divine!) When your appetite for dinner rumbles in, treat yourself to a meal at Rootstalk, Breck’s upscale, highly seasonal Colorado mountain cuisine restaurant, also led by Chef Matt Vawter. Then, to cap off a wonderful day of Wildflower Week activities, pop into The Chalet, Breck’s ultra-posh, mountain-themed speakeasy with the most unique craft cocktails and coolest bathrooms I’ve ever stepped foot in (bring your camera, you won’t regret it!).
Where To Stay for a Summer Weekend in Breckenridge
To make the most of Breckenridge Wildflower Week, it helps to stay in the heart of town, or within a short walk or drive of it. With the festival just over a month out, your best bet will be to book a hotel room, as many Airbnb and Vrbo properties (including Shock Hill Grand, the jaw-dropping Breckenridge Vrbo that landed among the 2026 Vrbo Vacation Rentals of the Year) are fully booked. Luckily, Breck has a bunch of hotels to choose from. Hotel Alpenrock, a modern mountain hotel with upscale amenities and a divine speakeasy, and Gravity Haus, a wellness-led escape with an open-air gym, sauna, and contrast therapy deck (both are dog-friendly) are two places you can’t go wrong with. If, however, you require a pool with all summer stays (I don’t blame you!), Grand Colorado on Peak 8 and Grand Lodge on Peak 7 will be better options.
All this to say, while summer might not be the season that immediately pops into mind when thinking of this popular mountain town, Breckenridge summer travel is set to soar for 2026. Between the cooler temperatures and fewer crowds than ski season, beautiful flowers, and ample programming, there’s nothing not to love about Breck in summer. Who knows, visiting Breckenridge year-round might just become the next big thing in Colorado experiential travel.
