The Creole Nature Trail is one of the most scenic road trips in Louisiana. This 180-mile All-American Road will take you through some of the most incredible parts of southwestern Louisiana, stopping off at wonderful waterways and charming small towns until you reach the Gulf of Mexico...and that’s just when the fun begins. You can start your road trip anywhere on the trail, but we’d recommend beginning your journey at Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point.

It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s where you’ll learn all about what’s in store along your upcoming ride.

There are several hands-on displays here where you’ll learn about everything from wildlife to Zydeco during your visit.

Once you’ve gained the knowledge (and maybe a brochure or two), you’re ready to hit the road.

Once you’re in the car, throw on some Zydeco and enjoy the scenery!

The whole road trip is 180 miles, but you can tinker with the road trip to make it fit your schedule.

As you can see, once you reach the Gulf, you'll be backtracking a bit if you want to see *all* of the sights.

There are plenty of spots to do a little fishing, either from docks and piers or you can bring your boat and launch it at one of the boat launches along the way.

This is an added perk for those folks who really want to get the full experience.

There are several scenic spots along the trail where you can get out and stretch your legs.

The Sabine National Wildlife Refuge is one of the best.

Here, you'll find Wetland Walkway, a lovely, little kid-friendly boardwalk trail over the marsh. Depending on the time of year you visit, you may even spot an alligator or two!

When you reach the Gulf of Mexico, you'll feel like you've been transported to a tropical island.

Both Holly Beach and Rutherford Beach are stops along the trail, and they're great for casual beach strolls and sunset views. Both beaches are great for finding seashells, too, so keep your eyes peeled for a unique souvenir to take home!
