This Is the Absolute Best Town in Colorado To Visit During the Halloween Season
Discover why Cañon City is the best Halloween town in Colorado, with haunted attractions, ghost tours, corn mazes, and festive family fun.
If you could visit any town in Colorado for Halloween, which would you choose? Estes Park (and the Stanley Hotel)? Maybe Denver, with its many haunted houses and seasonal events? Or how about Colorado Springs for the same reason? While all of the above are stellar picks, I happen to think that this unassuming Colorado town is, in fact, is the perfect place to celebrate the spooky season.
Welcome to Cañon City, the BEST town in Colorado to visit during Halloween! Known for landmarks like the Royal Gorge Bridge, outdoor recreation galore, and nearby natural beauty, Cañon City is an exciting Colorado destination that becomes even better come October, thanks to its many unique haunts, themed activities, and seasonal jaunts.

One of the most popular events takes place at the historic Holy Cross Abbey. While the Abbey is usually a quiet and beautiful place, it gets a little eerie come Halloween, thanks to its popular haunted attraction, Dark Side of the Abbey. This immersive event runs on select weekends in late September through early November, offering ghostly thrills and supernatural encounters for those brave enough to explore its corridors and surrounding grounds. Many visitors pair this with Disturbance at the Monastery, making it a full evening of chilling entertainment.
Cañon City has more than just haunted abbeys, too. If you thought walking across the 956-foot-high Royal Gorge Bridge was daring, wait until you visit at Halloween during the annual Boo at the Bridge Spectacular, which features festive decorations, spooky surprises, and a Halloween-themed view of the gorge that you won’t forget. The Boo at the Bridge takes place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., and features plenty of trick-or-treating for children, live performances, and treats for the whole family.
And the thrills don’t stop there. Is there anything more unsettling than an old prison-turned-museum rumored to host unexplained phenomena? I didn’t think so. The Museum of Colorado Prisons occupies a former women’s penitentiary and is said to be home to many strange sights, sounds, and scents, making it a must-see for fans of haunted history.
Cañon City also offers several seasonal attractions perfect for fall, including the Aftermath Haunted House, Colon Orchards Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, and Diana’s Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze, giving families and adventurers alike a variety of autumn activities to enjoy.
