Fall drives are nice and hikes are lovely but perhaps the most beautiful fall trip to take this season is along the scenic Buffalo National River. Starting from Tyler Bend, this two-day getaway is simply gorgeous. There's no doubt that the Buffalo River float will be your favorite fall trip you take this year in Arkansas!
In September when the first nuances of fall begin to pop up along the Buffalo National River, outdoor enthusiasts get ready to hit the trails... and the rivers!
It's during this time when the trees begin changing, which means soon the lush landscape of the Natural State will look like a colorful work of art!
A fall float trip along the Buffalo National River is a fantastic way to enjoy Arkansas' beauty.
Especially if that trip is along the United States' first national river.
The Buffalo River in Arkansas has dozens of float trips but one, in particular, is one of the best things to do in fall in Arkansas.
The 17.5-mile float from Tyler Bend to South Maumee has some of the best foliage along the river. The Tyler Bend Visitor Center is located at 170 Ranger Rd., St. Joe, AR, 72675.
Besides being gorgeous, this float is one of the more secluded trips to take, especially around October.
Tyler Bend may be a popular area but once you're floating you'll just have the peaceful sounds of the surrounding nature to enjoy. Most folks think of the Buffalo being a summer destination, but a trip later in the year certainly has its perks.
For one, camping under the stars of the Natural State is unforgettable.
Roasted marshmallows, fireside snuggles, and spectacular stargazing will make this trip memorable. Primitive camping is permitted anyway along the Buffalo as long as its 1/2-mile from any park maintained areas. A good spot halfway between today's two points would be near the Red Bluff. Use the National Park Service Buffalo map to plot your trip.
Tyler Bend to South Maumee is filled with picture-perfect scenery.
It's easy to extend the trip as well. Add it on to floats westward of Tyler Bend or have another camp out at Maumee.
There really isn't anywhere more beautiful than along the Buffalo.
Arkansas certainly lives up to its name of "The Natural State."
A great resource to use for any Buffalo float is the Buffalo Outdoor Center. They offer shuttles, cabins, and plotted-out float trips for a perfect Buffalo getaway.
