The Talimena Scenic Drive is the most iconic trip in the state. Although anytime is the right time to take this drive, there's something particularly magical about fall. Let's pack the snacks and relax along this gorgeous drive.
Arkansans (and Oklahomans) can all agree that the Talimena Drive is one of the best trips in the nation.
The winding curves, stunning overlooks, and explosion of color in the fall make this scenic drive an icon.
The drive was one of the first official National forest Scenic Byways.
In 1988, the USDA launched the National Forest Scenic Byway Program. The Talimena Drive became a designated drive in February 1989.
You'll start your journey in the small town of Mena.
The drive is 54-miles through the Ouachita National Forest. From Mena you'll head west along Hwy. 88 until you've reached Talimena, OK.
Although the drive is gorgeous anytime of the year, the fall colors are simply irresistible.
