With a Farmer’s Market and a Vineyard, There’s Nothing Like a Summer Weekend in This Arizona Town
Globe, Arizona, offers a historic and charming summer getaway with farmers' markets, wine tasting, and cozy rentals.
The small city of Globe is located over 80 miles east of Phoenix in Gila County. Coming here is a step back into the past and a fascinating place to visit, especially in the summer months. It was first founded as a mining camp in 1875, and some of its mining past can be discovered there today. The town has just over 7,100 residents and plenty of interesting things to see and do. Why not spend a summer weekend in Globe, Arizona, this year?
Globe may not be the first place that comes to mind when seeking a weekend getaway during the summer, but maybe it should. This historic city's beginnings date back to 1875, and today, there are plenty of things to see and do here, no matter the time of year, including a historic downtown and remnants of its mining past.
Throughout Globe's historic downtown, you can climb up and down numerous staircases. Referred to as the "Stairizona Trail," you'll be led through neighborhoods with their 1900s-era architecture and landmarks, and you can view public art along the way. Not only that, but the views surrounding the town are outstanding, to say the least. The trail is 6.4 miles long, and it's a great way to get to know Globe.
If you love farmers' markets, the Globe-Miami Farmers' Market held at the Globe Veterans Memorial Park is hard to beat. Held every Saturday from June through early September from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., you'll find plenty of local vendors selling everything from produce and flowers to baked goods and handcrafted items. For those who enjoy a glass of wine, good views, and dogs, Waggin' Vineyard & Estate, located just off Highway 60 in Globe, is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing weekend afternoon. Come here for a tasting and stay to enjoy a glass of wine out on the patio. You can order a charcuterie platter filled with meats and cheeses to share with a glass of red or white wine. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it?
If you want to spend an entire weekend exploring Globe this summer, there are several rentals to consider, including this cozy home close to downtown. This particular home offers four bedrooms and can accommodate up to six guests. Spend some time on the porch overlooking the city, take a walk into town, or head indoors to its open-concept living space.
