This South Carolina Geo Dome Is Made for Stargazing
This Geo Dome in South Carolina is perfect for stargazing and an ideal spot to explore all of Oconee County's attractions.
April is Global Astronomy Month, and South Carolina has some spectacular spots to do a little stargazing. I’m a huge Astro nerd and tend to spend my winters traveling around the Arctic Circle, photographing the Northern Lights. When summer swings back around, I shift my focus to capturing the Milky Way, and this delightful Airbnb in South Carolina is the perfect spot to set up camp and watch the night skies.
Glamping is a relatively new term. It tends to define places that are a step above a primitive campsite but don’t offer the full amenities that you would find in a traditional cabin. It’s an excellent hybrid option for folks who want to spend time outdoors but perhaps don’t want to spend a night sleeping on the ground without modern comforts.
This geodesic structure bridges the gap between primitive camping and a cabin retreat. There is a mini kitchen, a full bathroom, air conditioning and heating, and a queen-sized bed.
There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained throughout the day, both on the property and in the nearby area. For starters, you’ll have a warm welcoming committee when you arrive!
The rental is on a farm, and several cuddly critters can’t wait to meet you. Animal treats are already waiting in the dome when you arrive, so once you settle in, you can head to the fence (where they will be waiting) to give them all the boops and treats.
The horses and sheep are very friendly!
If the farm animals didn’t win you over, perhaps the zip line will. Your inner child will have a blast racing down the line over and over again. You don’t often find an Airbnb as unique as this one!
Of course, there are plenty of things to do around Salem, South Carolina. Often referred to as the Gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall, this is an area of South Carolina that’s beautiful year-round. Devils Fork State Park is one of my favorites, and who could resist a visit to the iconic Lake Jocassee?
After a day of outdoor exploring, swing by the Jocassee Valley Brewing Company before heading back to the dome. This local gem hosts live music every night and food trucks on the weekends.
Once you’ve stocked up on brews and grub, head back to the rental, relax in the hot tub, and enjoy the sunset. Once the sun goes down, the stars come out and put on quite the show! I love this spot because the pastures create a vast open space so you can stargaze without fighting any trees. Just remember that guests are not allowed to enter the pasture.
