Camp overnight aboard the historic USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

One of the most unique places to camp in South Carolina isn't found in a traditional campground. It's found aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. Most people aren't aware that you can spend the night on the Yorktown, but you can! There are just a few guidelines you'll need to meet in order to do so, and then a few more you'll need to follow during your overnight stay.

Welcome aboard the USS Yorktown (CV-10)!

During its commission under the US Navy, the USS Yorktown received the Presidential Unit Citation and earned 11 battle stars. The ship was decommissioned after the conclusion of World War II and then recommission again in 1953 as an attack carrier and served during the Korean War and Vietnam War. Later in its career, the USS Yorktown served as a recovery vessel for the Apollo 8 space mission. After it was again decommissioned, it was moved to Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant in the mid-1970s and became a permanent fixture in the Charleston Harbor, where it remains to this day.

While most people are aware you can tour the former aircraft carrier, not many people know you can actually camp out overnight on the ship.

But its true! The only caveat is that you'll need to round up a youth group to qualify for an overnight stay.

The overnight camp out experience also includes tickets to see all of the exhibits at Patriots Point, including a Cold War submarine.
