Let's get one thing perfectly straight here: North Dakota is an amazing place to visit. For whatever reason, we sit right at the bottom of the "50 Most Visited States" lists, and honestly, that's a bummer - this place is so much more amazing than it's ever got credit for (outside of folks who live here, anyway). Take, for instance, this incredible lakehouse I found that's located right on beautiful Lake Audubon; with four bedrooms and the ability to sleep up to nine, this awesomely unique Airbnb in North Dakota is calling your name... can you hear it?
Welcome to Coleharbor, North Dakota - a beautiful little town not too far from just about everything (but far enough that it's nice and quiet 24/7).
The house overlooks Lake Audubon, and when I say the views are impressive - I mean it. You can't go wrong with any spot in the place.
The views of the lake from the living room are absolutely awesome, and it makes for a fantastic backdrop on a relaxing outing.
Sunset and sunrise are lovely - this could be one of the best places to stay in North Dakota thanks to the lake alone.
Lake Audubon is large, coming in at an impressive 16,612 acres in size and possessing nearly 153 miles of pristine shoreline.
The water is crisp and cool, and perhaps best of all, Audubon is known for its clarity and cleanliness - so that's nice.
This little place can sleep up to nine, so it's great for families and friend groups...
...though the place is also ideal for a solo outing. Bring your favorite book and curl up on one of the cozy beds (or on the couch in front of a window with lake views).
The fully-stocked kitchen is perfect for preparing your favorite home-cooked meals while you're here.
The town of Coleharbor is small - very small, boasting a population of about 65 around the 2020 census - but in my opinion, that's a major part of its charm. It's rustic and small without being confining or suffocating, and I think it might just be your new favorite place to get away for a bit.
Enjoy nearby attractions like the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge, Wolf Creek Winery, and the Coleharbor City Park.
And when you're all done, you know you get to come "home" to a little slice o' paradise.
